[Best Buy] $99 Polk Audio 10" 100-Watt Powered Subwoofer (PSW10)

Not everyone can and will buy an expensive sub. For those looking for an entry level sub woofer, here is a $99 10 inch sub from Polk. Pretty sure not many $100 subs can compete with this one at this price range.

http://bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/pol ... 53785.aspx

With 2,501 ratings and averaging 4.6 out of 5, I would say it's pretty good. Actually also listed as the #1 selling sub at Amazon.com under Home Audio Subwoofers. http://amazon.com/Polk-Audio-10-Inc ... ords=PSW10

Who has one of these?

This thing always goes on sale for that price. Paying $300 would be insane. It's a staple product in the Visions Boxing Day sale every year.

It's not an "audiophile" sub but it makes for great booms for gaming systems.

PSW10 and PSW108 are the same thing; they're just available in different colours I believe. The PSW10 is available in black/silver and cherry, while the PSW108 is all black.

Pretty crap "subwoofer" which should never be purchased for any more than the $100 price seen here. It's got a good amount of port noise with anything under 50Hz, and response is pretty much done, below 35Hz. Also output is never that great to begin with, though you can't really expect much from a 50W amp and $100.

Here's a review with some real measurements and put up against some other budget (but more than $100) subs:

Bic F12 for example, is significantly better but costs 2x as much (but still only around $200). Unless your budget is really limited and/or you never plan on buying a subwoofer better than this, I'd skip it. If you're adding it to an HTIB or soundbar or just never had a sub before, it might be appropriate; but if you've got a $500+ receiver and good speakers, definitely do not add this thinking it's going to be a good/appropriate addition.

Here is a short review of the PSW10/PSW108/AM1055-A

tldr: At $99, it's a fair-priced entry-level budget sub for non-audophiles.
Whenever someone asks a question that starts with "Why do they..." or "Why don't they...", the answer is always a) money, b) stupidity, or c) both.

Disregard the audio snobs that always enter to crap on this thread. You will not find a better $100 sub. The Bic f12 is not $200 shipped in Canada.

PSW 108 Owner- Perfect sub if u are not into audiophiling. decent bass . Bass is better if the room size is small. Also after listening to bass on my friends 800$ sub and my ears hurting after 40 minutes, I would say this is a good deal for $99.

I have a PSW505... it can be a bit boomy with movies, which I don't enjoy, but nothing turning the gain down doesn't solve. Probably nothing wrong with these $100 units if you're not expecting your windows to vibrate on very low sustained notes.

Indeed. This sub is entry level but at $99, nothing on the market at this price will touch it.

Sounds like your friend was showing off, which does not reflect on the quality of a sub.

+1 . The prices on speakers and subs are way over-inflated in Canada. $300 regular price for a 10" subwoofer with only 50 watts RMS is crazy. It is on sale for $99 many times a year though, and at that price it is probably ok for a small room.

To get something better for around the same price, you need to buy in the US. Parts Express sells the Dayton Audio SUB-1000 for $99 USD (after $10 off with SAVE10 coupon code). 10" woofer with 100 watts RMS. Free shipping in the US so free to ship to a parcel outlet near the border. They also have it for $124 with a wireless kit.

For a larger room, the Dayton SUB-1200 is $119 USD (after $10 off). 12" woofer, so 44% more surface area than a 10". 120 watts RMS.

The Dayton subs are not "audiophile" subs either -- you need spend $500 USD and up for that -- but they have more power and get consistently better reviews.
